Only a few actually give the independence of having a domain name, while the others require the user to register a sub domain under their primary domain. Free Web Hosts almost always require you to have their advertisements on your website and offer less services and freedom as compared to paid Web Hosts. Additionally, free Web Hosts also provide only a limited amount of disk space, generally between 5-10 MB. Free Web Hosts are most suited for blogs and small websites that generally do not require running their own CGI scripts (as that is one facility most free web hosts do not offer). For bigger and more complex sites, it is always better to go for a paid Web Host.
